Duke of Edinburgh’s Award: Silver Practice Expedition 2019

Following the huge success of our first Silver Expedition in 2018, this year’s students embarked on their two-day, practice expedition at 8.30am on Tuesday 30th April 2019.

Once their bags had been checked and the equipment had been shared out, students from both campuses travelled to Edale in The Peak District.

Day one took us from Edale train station up to Hollin’s Cross. We then made our way across the Peaks, eventually reaching Mam Tor. We stopped there for a while to enjoy the silence, still weather and sunshine, before making our way back to Edale, to set up camp at the Field Head Campsite.

The students enjoyed a game of rounders before taking themselves off to bed in our brand-new tents.

Day two, saw the students work on their navigation skills further, taking us to Lord’s Seat and then back into Edale for the final leg. Over the two days we covered just short of 31km, including several steep inclines.

The student’s led by example and worked excellently as a team to support each other through their first expedition.

The expedition was a huge success and we look forward to the qualifier in July, this year.

Well done all
