Health and Social Care
BTEC Level 1/2
This one year course prepares you with a specialist work related qualification in Health and Social Care. You will gain knowledge, understanding and skills to prepare you to progress to employment or continue to a Level 3 vocational area.
The Certificate is equivalent to two GCSEs and is mostly coursework assessed with two externally set exams. It is a practical, skills based programme and will be particularly useful for job roles where you will be expected to communicate effectively with people from diverse backgrounds and provide support in different care settings.
The course consists of a variety of units including Human Lifespan Development and Care Values in Health and Social Care. Some of the units focus on Healthy Living, Promoting Wellbeing and Nutrition within the Health and Social Care sector. Practical units include Creative and Therapeutic Activities and Effective Communication in Health and Social Care settings.

More than just a course
This practical skills based course requires learners to participate in group discussions, meetings, and role plays as part of their assessments. A period of one week work placement is an integral part of the course depending on the learner’s career aspirations.
The assignments are flexibly written to allow the learner to research within their chosen career path. Learners are also encouraged to explore possible alternative pathways.
Those learners who have not achieved a grade 4 at English and Maths GCSE will have the opportunity to retake these subjects as part of their time at college.
