Beyond The Classroom

At Marple Sixth Form College we are very proud of our high academic and vocational standards but also believe students should get the opportunity to expand their horizons outside of the classroom.

This is why we have developed a comprehensive programme of extra-curricular activities which link both to specific courses and to our students’ overall personal development.

The programme includes field trips to cultural institutions, large corporations, businesses and key public sector organisations together with the chance to participate in international projects and study exchanges.

We also have a wide range of societies, sports clubs and community activities which encourage students to take more personal responsibility and develop additional skills and qualities outside of the college.

Further Study, Training & Employability
We have relationships with many of the UK’s leading universities – including Oxford, Cambridge and Russell Group institutions – which help our students gain excellent insights into how universities work, what studying for a degree is like and what universities look for when offering undergraduate places.

We also recognise that all of our students need to be prepared for the world of work even if they are considering going to university or into further training after their studies.

We therefore work closely with local employers who offer students invaluable hands-on work experience and careers advice through job placements, industry visits and guest lectures.

Student Participation
At Marple Sixth Form College we actively encourage students to tell us how we could do things better, what would improve their time at college and ask them how we can help them to develop and progress.

This is achieved through the college’s elected Student Union representatives, our annual Learner Voice student conference and regular informal feedback sessions with staff.

We are always open to new ideas and initiatives and welcome student participation in every aspect of college life.

A Rounded And Grounded Approach
We believe that this mix of academic studies and vocational training – combined with a programme of employer engagement, university partnerships, extra-curricular activities, community projects and active participation in college life – means our students leave us as well rounded, open minded and socially responsible young people ready for the next stage of their adult lives.
