Exam Results 2020

As a consequence of the COVID-19 pandemic and lockdown, examinations could not take place between March and July 2020.

In order to ensure students still had the means to progress to the next stage of their lives, a process was put in place by Ofqual (Office of Qualifications and Examinations Regulation) that was deemed the fairest possible approach available under extreme circumstances.

This process has never been attempted before, however; the rigour of the process means grades awarded this year are as valid as in any other year.

The Cheadle and Marple College Network were asked to make their best assessment of the grade each student was most likely to achieve. Teachers know their students and the work completed and can assess the grades with a high degree of accuracy.

All grades submitted were internally quality assured and were not the sole decision of one individual teacher.

The standardisation model developed by Ofqual and the awarding organisations is statistical and may not reflect the grades submitted by the centre.

The standardisation process applied by the exam boards ensures the grades awarded this year are consistent with those awarded in other years.

We want to support our students not only to understand the process but to respond to any concerns regarding grades. Should you have an enquiry please forward the details via this email address:

Following guidance received from the Department for Education, where you have concerns, there may be grounds for Mock exam results to be taken into consideration.
