Academic Excellence pathway

A Level

The Academic Excellence Pathway is designed to improve our students’ chances of securing places on the most competitive university courses. It is also an opportunity for students with very good GCSE grades to stretch themselves further and develop their study skills by researching an Extended Project in a topic of interest.

ACCOUNTING

ACCESS

Accounting will provide you with a critical understanding of how financial information is recorded and reported within differing organisations. You will study the purposes, principles and techniques of accounting, which are required to enable an organisation to operate effectively.

ACCOUNTING Level 2

Level 2, Certificate (AAT) , Level 3 Diploma (AAT) , Level 4 Higher Diploma (AAT)

BUSINESS

AS and A Level (AQA)

Business is an exciting and topical course which students can relate to. You will study topics such as marketing, finance, human resources and operations management and analyse how they influence the way in which a Business performs. The course also looks at the impact that external factors have on Business activity such as interest rates, environmental issues and globalisation.

BUSINESS

BTEC Extended Diploma Level 3

The BTEC Business Course is a two year course equivalent to 3 A Levels. The course is designed to provide a highly specialist, work-related qualification across a range of business sectors. The units you study will provide you with the knowledge, understanding and skills that you need to prepare for further education or employment.

The Apprenticeship in Business and Administration is aimed at those individuals who wish to work in the world of Business and develop those skills to enable them to establish a long-term career path.

ECONOMICS

AS and A Level (OCR)

Economics will enable you to understand the reasons for economic agents having to make choices. Initially, you will consider how markets work, looking at how supply and demand interact to allocate resources, but then you will study market failure, identifying its causes and possible government intervention to remedy such failures.

GOVERNMENT & POLITICS

AS AND A LEVEL (EDEXCEL)

Politics is the study of power and decision-making in our society. The first year focus is on the British system of government, including Parliament, Prime Minister, parties, elections, pressure groups and concepts of democracy, representation and participation.

LAW

AS AND A LEVEL (OCR)

Law is the subject for you if you have a genuine interest in the Law or the English Legal System, if you enjoy an intellectual challenge or if you are interested in becoming a barrister or solicitor.

Law BTEC

BTEC Level 3

Law is the subject for you if you have a genuine interest in the Law or the English Legal System, if you enjoy an intellectual challenge or if you are interested in becoming a barrister or solicitor. Law essentially involves the study of the English Legal System and the system of Law Making in England and Wales along with a detailed look at key aspects of Criminal Law, specifically in year two.

Maths

A-Level

What is it? Maths is about solving problems. Pure Maths provides methods involving algebra, trigonometry, functions and calculus. Applied Maths is divided into Decision, Statistics and Mechanics. Decision Maths is about solving real world problems which are often in a business context, Statistics is about data analysis and Mechanics is about statistics and motion of objects.

PROGRESSION PATHWAY

Level 2

This course has been built around the needs of employers and is intended to help you to create a portfolio of skills which will improve your future career opportunities. Successful completion will enable you to progress either into employment or onto a Level 3 course in the area of your choice at our College

PUBLIC SERVICES L3 Ex Dip

BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma

This practical course will give you an understanding of employment and life within the Public Services (uniformed and non-uniformed) and you will gain the relevant knowledge and skills to succeed in this sector. It is an ideal foundation for further study and a future career in Public Services.

WORK SKILLS (Progression Pathway)

Level 2
