Sport with Sports Coaching Award BTEC Level 3

BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma

The BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Sport is a two-year course that is equivalent to 3 A-Levels. It is assessed through 19 coursework based units which aim to provide you with opportunities to sample a wide range of specialist areas within sport and develop an understanding of the academic and practical skills that will help you to progress into a career in the sports, health and fitness industry.

How will I be assessed?

Each unit is split into several assignments which aim to assess your understanding of a variety of criteria, and are graded as Pass, Merit or Distinction. After completing each unit, each grade is added to a total which will give you your final grade profile.

In your first year, you will study the core units that are necessary for success in the sports industry; you will gain knowledge of how the body systems respond to exercise, how to plan and lead a coaching session, how to do a health screening consultation and more.

In your second year, you will study more advanced units which will build on your existing knowledge and explore more aspects of sport, such as analysing the performance of an athlete or team, writing diet plans for clients, and organising sporting events at local primary schools. In addition to this, you will undertake a two-week work placement within the sports industry which has the potential to lead onto paid employment.

You can also choose to undertake the FA Level 1 Coaching qualification (including Child Protection and Emergency First Aid) and the Level 2 Award in Leadership through Football qualification alongside the BTEC Sport course, allowing you to develop your coaching and leaderships skills even further.
