Close to the centre of Marple village – an attractive and popular conurbation steeped in history and tradition – the college is spread over two sites, Buxton Lane and Hibbert Lane, which are a few minutes apart on foot.
Both are surrounded by extensive playing fields and green spaces and from many classroom windows our students enjoy stunning views of Manchester, Cheshire and Derbyshire.
Spaces For Work
The college offers wide range of amenities and services including numerous ICT centres with high speed broadband, a well-stocked and tranquil library and learning centre, and additional learner resources linked to specific subjects.
For example Media and Film Studies students have their own editing suite and a boutique 50-seat cinema, our Modern Languages department has a dedicated linguistics centre and those studying Science have access to integrated laboratories.
Art and Design, Textiles, Graphics and Photography students also all enjoy special creative spaces and equipment, as do those studying Child, Health and Social Care.
Spaces For Play
Sport and socialising play a key part in student life at Marple Sixth Form College and we have a large sports hall, a well-equipped fitness suite together with extensive playing fields and pitches adjacent to the college buildings. We also offer access to the Ridge Sports Pavilion at the nearby Wood Lane complex which features rooms ideal for social functions and special college events.
The college has a 150 seat theatre complete with stage lighting, sound rigs and dressing rooms together with rehearsal spaces and a dance studio.
While taking a break from studies or sports, our students also have access to two refectories and a number of student lounges and seating areas. We also offer student car-parking and plenty of bike racks.
All the main college faculties can be accessed by wheelchair.
